Textile Center Land Acknowledgment

Textile Center is in the process of crafting a land acknowledgment statement and determining how best to honor the Indigenous peoples — past, present, and future — who held or continue to hold sovereignty over, inhabited and continue to inhabit, hold sacred, and steward the lands upon which Textile Center operates.

RESOURCES:

Some of the resources we have consulted include:

  • Honor Native Land Guide from the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture:
  • Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian:
  • “So you began your event with an Indigenous land acknowledgment. Now what?” by Chloe Veltman, March 15, 2023, All Things Considered, NPR:
  • U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs:

Currently, we have several ongoing educational initiatives that aim to acknowledge, celebrate, and amplify indigenous peoples’ voices and experiences, including scholarships for indigenous students and members of native communities to take classes at Textile Center and opportunities for indigenous artists to teach classes and share their creative practices.

We welcome community feedback on the statement and/or programs you would like to see Textile Center implement as part of this process. We invite you to share your perspectives with us using this form:
